Persecuted for anti-war stance

  • 2Persecuted for anti-war stance

This list contains the names of those who are prosecuted for their words or actions in protest of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

About the people on the list

After the start of large-scale aggression against Ukraine on 24 February 2022, the Russian authorities unleashed repression on opponents of the war. Two new articles of the Criminal Code were urgently adopted specifically for this purpose: Article 207.3 (‘Public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation’, liable to up to 15 years‘ imprisonment) and Article 280.3 (’Public actions aimed at discrediting the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation‘, liable to up to 5 years’ imprisonment). Articles on hooliganism, vandalism and other traditional instruments of political repression are also used to prosecute participants in the anti-war movement.

Like our other lists, this list is not exhaustive – it takes a while to add political prisoners to it, so the names of illegally imprisoned opponents of the war are included with some delay.
